Northwestern Chemistry marks record year in NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program

Northwestern Chemistry is celebrating a record year in the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program, one of the nation’s most prestigious honors for graduate students pursuing research in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The NSF announced the 2026 fellowship offers April 13.

This year, nine current Northwestern Chemistry students and four incoming students received NSF Graduate Research Fellowships. Four additional students received honorable mention.

In chemistry, 214 students nationwide received GRFP awards this year. Northwestern Chemistry’s 13 fellowship recipients represent a strong showing in one of the program’s most competitive disciplinary areas.

The recognition reflects the depth of talent in Northwestern Chemistry and the department’s continued success in supporting graduate students at the start of their research careers.
