Fayerweather Hall of Science

In the decades prior to the construction of the Technological Institute (1940-1942), the Department occupied the west wing of Fayerweather Hall of Science. Noted Chicago architects Holabird and Roche designed the building in the Romanesque style. It was named after Daniel Fayerweather, who contributed the money for the construction. Fayerweather Hall is thought to be the first building in Chicago erected specifically for instruction in science. Originally located west of Fisk Hall, it was dedicated in 1887 and was razed in 1953.
